In the 19th Century, the term BURLESQUE referred to comic plays and musicals created to entertain the lower and middle classes by "burlesquing” or making fun of high class operas and plays, and in doing so, making fun of the upper classes. In the USA, and then the UK, it slowly developed into the raunchy dancing and stage shows which set the scene for today’s Burlesque shows. When we hear the word Burlesque today, we think of Dita Von Teese, sexy basques and stockings. The popularity of Burlesque is being generated by women who are proud of their own bodies. Put on a Burlesque outfit and a woman brings out her hidden personality. It’s for women of all ages and shapes and the outfits enhance curves already there as well as adding them.
